For some time now, laptops were considered fragile and susceptible to damages especially if subjected to the outdoors. This meant that office use was fine but places like construction sites were out-of-bounds. This has since changes. This has given rise to heavy Duty, or "Rugged" laptops. These are essentially laptop machines that are able to withstand extremes of elements and weather. This means bad weather and unfriendly conditions such as those found in places such as construction sites and military battle fields. Engineers working out in the field can also do with heavy duty laptops. Others are sportsmen, researchers who go to hostile terrains such as mountains, canyons, deserts and even under the sea.
These laptops usually have the same functionality as the regular machines but have a more durable outer casing that can resist extremes of shock without losing data. There are also those that are water-resistant meaning they can still function even in heavy rain or even underwater. One of the most popular heavy-duty laptop is the Panasonic "Toughbook" which continues to be a best-seller.
